James Lindsey

Good stories are everywhere. The greatest ones deserve to be seen and heard, and I make sure yours is.

I’m a filmmaker and veteran location sound recordist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through James Lindsey Productions, I make documentaries, family legacy films and corporate videos that tell your story clearly, in picture and in sound.

Sound is where I began. After earning my BA in Film at San Francisco State University, I built a career as a location sound recordist and audio engineer, with credits including The Godfather Family. That work put me in the room with some of the industry’s defining voices—Francis Coppola, James Cameron, George Lucas, Oprah Winfrey, and Ben Burtt—as well as political leaders and noted figures including Mark Zuckerberg, Suze Orman, and Robin Williams. It taught me how professional productions really run, and how much a story depends on every word being heard clearly.

My directorial debut, B.M.X., began as an SF State University documentary. Recently revised, it was entered into the Impact DOCS Awards in 2026, where it received an Award of Merit (Documentary Short: USA), and is an Official Selection of the 26th Annual Bicycle Film Festival, screening virtually beginning December 2026.

What you get when you hire me:

• A filmmaker who listens closely—to your story and to what you do best
• Clean, professional sound from someone who has spent a career on it
• Beautiful pictures and careful editing, from first interview to final film
• A story that holds together from beginning to end
• A finished film your family, team, or audience will actually watch
